Building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song.

About Us

One Voice Mixed Chorus is Minnesota’s only—and one of the nation’s largest—lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight allies (LGBTA) chorus. Founded in 1988, One Voice has been “building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song” for 30 years. With 125 singing members ranging in age from 15 to 81, and 50 non-singing “Fifth Section” volunteers, One Voice inspires passionate, vibrant, and creative performances for thousands of audience members each year at concerts, during outreach tours, through their pioneering OUT in Our Schools program now in its 20th year, and innovative collaborations. The award-winning chorus is known for its musical excellence, diverse programming, and a deep commitment to community engagement, and is described by Chorus America as “one of the region’s best ensembles.”

Our History

One Voice Mixed Chorus was formed in 1988—one of the first choruses in the country to bring together people from LGBTQA communities. The intent was to unite for a common goal of creating social change through music; the gay and lesbian communities had already begun working together to address the AIDS crisis, which had reached astronomical proportions, and it was clear that further social change was needed.

Today, One Voice is one of the largest LGBTQA choruses in North America. It is comprised of 125 singers of diverse cultural backgrounds, from ages 15 to 81, drawn together as members and allies of the LGBTQA community. Being a member of One Voice is a profound experience for many chorus members, affecting their sense of identity and connection to community. One Voice could not exist without the volunteer efforts of its members and supporters, who contribute 4,000 to 5,000 volunteer hours annually. Together, we dedicate our time and energy to the One Voice mission: “Building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song.”
